August 3, 2002 - Detour to Leland, with a change in plan.
We got up early to a beautiful day. After Captain Bill checked everything to make sure Rendezvous was ready to go, we went to the fuel dock and filled up with diesel for the trip home. The day started out with totally flat seas, but they have come up a bit now, as it is mid afternoon. Nothing to be concerned about, so we hope to get to Leland tonight. A little later -----It seems that we figured the mileage to Leland wrong and that we won't get there until 8:30 or later, so we called the Leland Marina and they said that they were bursting at the seams and that boats were rafting off each other, and that was before 5:00. So they said that we could tie up at their gas dock if someone wasn't already there and would have to be gone by 7:00 am. That might have worked, but if someone were already at the gas dock, we would have really been stuck. Therefore, we called North Port and decided to get in there. None of these marinas will take a reservation, so it is first come first served. North Port still had a slip for us when we called, but can't hold it. So, again, we may end up at the gas dock there. Stay tuned. Now it looks like it may rain and blow the next few days, so we may be stuck somewhere. Gosh, I'm so anxious to get home. Hope the forecasters are wrong about the rainy weather.
