May 14, 2002 - Beaufort N.C. to Belhaven, North Carolina
This was a very long day, about 65 miles. The waters were choppy, which sprayed the salt water all over the boat and Bill had to keep spraying the windows off in order to see. It was amazing that even though we were in some large bodies of water, we were only in 12-15 feet of water most of the time. It was very intense traveling to say the least - no rest for the weary. Because of the large body of water, there were swells which made the boat rock and roll - similar to Lake Michigan - it was a wild ride for quite a while. There were also a million crab pots all across the Pamlico Sound and the Pungo River. We had had a storm the night before so the winds were still hollowing which made docking a challenge, but Bill did his usual good work and we got tied up safely. James was a real trouper again during this long, trying day. We were all very tired, so we went to the Inn at the marina for their southern smorgasbord, which as it turned out wasn't very good but made for a well deserved early night.
