July 28, 2002 - "Rocking and Rolling" from Midland to Kilbear
We left the Doral Marina late at 11:30 for Kilbear Marina. Rendezvous engines started right up for us and it was a beautiful morning. Sunny and bright. We were going along just fine but the seas seemed to be building and sure enough they were - big time. The waves were big and on our beam, which meant we rolled and rolled some more. There wasn't anyplace to turn into and there was no turning back, so we forged forward. We heard things falling out of the cupboards and the bar refrigator - pop cans rolling all over the back deck - IT WAS MISERABLE. A big bottle of wine fell out along with a big can of pineapple juice that spilled all over the place. Then a bottle of rum came out and broke. What a waste. We had tried to anchor as many things as we could, but we were still a mess. All we could do was hang on until we arrived at Kilbear. It was a long, tiring, grueling day and we were exhausted and mad too. We tried to clean up the boat somewhat and then went up to the restaurant for dinner, which we felt we deserved. The weather forecast for Monday isn't any better, so we plan on staying put for a day to regroup again, before we head for Killarny.
