May 4 - 7, 2002 - Seabrook to Charleston S.C.
After dinner Friday night, Bill and I stayed on the boat to get the boat ship shape for our journey to Charleston in the morning, and the Cobb Family went back to the beach house to get it closed up, as everyone is leaving for awhile. Saturday morning Amy and Jim brought Baby James to us early, as they were taking their rental car back to the airport and Ruth's car to the Charleston Marina. When they returned, Amy, Jim, Baby James and Ruth boarded the boat for the ride to Charleston. I relinquished my navigational duties to Jim for the day and he did a great job. It's always nice to have a break. This was James' inaugural boat trip and he slept most of the time. While he was awake, we ALL had to be on the ALERT. We have a harness, which is serving as a tether for him. He didn't like it at all at first, but he is getting used to it. I don't know if I mentioned it, but Amy and James will be cruising with us until May 28 all through the Chesapeake Bay area. This will be such fun. After we arrived, we took a trolley ride into town and walked around a bit. Then back to the boat for a family dinner of Southern grilled chicken (Bills style).
Sunday morning Amy took Jim to the airport, Ruth went to Church and James settled in for a long morning nap. After lunch, we went to town for a historic horse drawn carriage tour, and to walk around the market. Fun. James was a real trouper and enjoyed the sights too, especially the horses and the chickens around the horse barn.
The next day Amy and Bill went on a tour of Fort Sumter and Ruth and I stayed home so that James could have his long morning nap. We have figured out that if we let him have a good nap in the morning, we can take him to tour around all afternoon and evening if we want to. He is so good and easy to take care of. Amy and Bill were suppose to be home at noon - 12:30 comes around and still no Bill and Amy…come to find out they were waiting for an hour on a trolley/bus route that had been discontinued that day…finally Ruth came to pick them up and delivered them back to the boat. In the afternoon we said goodbye to Ruth and we went back into town to take another tour to see the Battery section of town by horse drawn carriage. This is a beautiful, fun town and we are really enjoying it. However, it is VERY HOT and if you know me, you know that I'm not very good in HOT. There is so much civil war history here we could poke around here for a long time, but we must move on tomorrow.
