May 15, 2002 - Belhaven to Coinjock
We got up real early, for us, and got under way at 7:40 am, but were still the last boat to take off. We just can't seem to get up earlier- oh, well. We'll get to Coinjock sometime today. There are quite a number of familiar boats heading north. It is about 75 miles, so it'll be a long one. It is cooler today and it's clear and pretty. Less wind so for now also. Early morning the sun is shining bright right into our eyes, making it very hard to see the markers. Eye strain for sure. It's so nice and cool, I have a fleece jacket now. I love it - it has been way too HOT for too long. We heard a loud noise, and discovered some planes practicing some maneuvers about us - round and round. Bill took a lot of video. Be sure you are around when we get home to see it all. We were following the line of Northern bound boats along the ICW, but then had to cross the Alligator River and the Albemarle Sound where we did nothing but roll - roll - roll. James and Amy were a little woozy and James had a little trouble staying on his feet. What a relief it was to see the red and green markers of the ICW again, where we are in narrower stretches to protect us with land on both sides. It was another long day - 8 hours. When we arrived, we washed the boat, washed clothes, had dinner on board and relaxed a bit. Tomorrow we travel to Norfolk where we will stay at the Waterside Marina right down town, and hope to see young Dave Peterson form St. Joe. He says he may be able to show us some Navel sights.
Stay tuned.
