March 29 - 30, 2002 - Marathon to Islamorada
It was a short trip from Marathon to Islamorada today on the Hawk Channel on the Atlantic Ocean side and then through Snake Creek to Plantation Yacht Harbor Marina on the Bay side. We were now on the ICW to get there. The water was VERY SKINNY coming in and going through Snake Creek and I was freaking out a bit, as you might expect. We finally got to the Marina and my cousin Leslie and her husband Jack were there to greet us. We quickly washed the salt off the boat, took a shower and walked over to their home across the street. It turns out that the marina is on the bay side ( the ICW side). And they live on the Atlantic Ocean side, just across the road and down a block. We had a little lunch and they took us for a ride to see the sights of Islamorada and to pick up some fresh fish for dinner. They have a lovely home with beautiful views of the Ocean from all the rooms. We stopped back at the boat to pick up sweaters and had a cocktail there to watch the sunset over the Bay. Then we went to there home for dinner and watched the FULL moon come up over the Atlantic Ocean. Can you believe that you can do that here. A beautiful sunset over the Gulf and a moon coming up over the Atlantic, one block away - Pretty amazing. They fixed a real Florida dinner of dolphin and yellow tail, black beans and rice and it was truly delicious. We walked back to the boat after we had filled our bellies and had a great visit.
Saturday, we did some boat work and then we went for another ride around with Leslie and Jack and again had dinner with them, after we had a cocktail cruise in their boat to see the sunset and look at the lovely homes along the canals. And another beautiful sight - the full moon coming up over the Ocean. We enjoyed our visit and seeing this part of the Keys.
