October 28, 2001 - Green Turtle to Paris Landing
We really liked Green Turtle Bay. Wish we could have stayed a day or so, but we have to shove off today. Can you believe that they even had a long desk, a phone and computer hook ups at the office. We got up early, did our computer work and made phone calls to try and rent a car to get Jo and Ralph back to Paducah, and pick Joan and Bert up from Memphis next week. We went to Dockers for Breakfast, Jo's treat, and departed Green Turtle at 11:00 for the Paris Landing Marina, 40 miles away. I always wonder what we'll find next. It's cool but BEAUTIFUL. Green Turtle Bay is a very special marina - wish they could all be like that, or even close. Right away we went to the channel between the lakes, The Barkley Channel. Several sailboats are sailing along today on this crisp day. It's beautiful along here. We checked our e-mail - we love hearing from all of you - keep up the good work. I think this is the best cruising day we've had. There were no barges on Kentucky Lake today. We arrived at Paris Landing at 3:00 and docked along a long transient floating dock. When Bill turned off the engines, it was great - no engine noise and no wind. Jo did a great job getting her spring line around the cleat - I didn't. It isn't so easy, as these floating docks are so low and we are so tall. Paris Landing, Tennessee, is a state park resort, The park has a restaurant, golf course, tennis courts, driving range, conference center, and about anything else one could want for a casual outing. Look out, Girls of "54 and "friends", we think this Kentucky Lake area could be a great spot for a summer outing on a rented houseboat in the summer of 2003. Of course, Bill might be our CAPTAIN if we are nice to him. A park ranger picked us up at the marina and we went up to the lodge for dinner. As this is a state park, of course, they don't serve drinks, so needless to say, we had ours on the boat. Can you believe, we had a huge buffet dinner with prime rib and all the trimmings for $10 each - a real bargain. Maybe we'll learn that if we don't drink on our dinners out it won't be so expensive. The ranger drove us back to the boat and we played bridge. Jo and I won of course. We will probably have a rematch tonight.
